Accountabily Tracking

AWOMI has initiated academic research mapping all critical issues related to gender, economic reforms and impoverishment, in particular issues including access to water and sanitation, services related to sexuality, reproductive health and rights, food, finance, women’s unpaid work, representation, participation and voice. Once the evidence gathered, AWOMI devised an Accountability Tracking (ACT) tool as an a methodical approach enabling women and youth to hold their governments and all public institutions to account. Ensuing its conception, the tool has been tested at different levels through various processes.



 ACT

The Accountability Tracking (ACT) is one of AWOMI’s three main program areas of work. It covers action research mapping all critical issues related to gender, economic reforms and social justice including access to water and sanitation, HIV/AIDs, services related to sexuality, reproductive health and rights (SRHR); food sovereignty and nutrition, finance, women’s unpaid work, representation, participation and voice.

ACT Deployment

   African parliamentarians, economists, journalists and young gender activists have been introduced to AWOMI's newly designed platform, the Accountability Tracking Tool (ACT). Its objectives include highlighting progress towards gender equality and denoucing which is to be piloted in nine Africa countries beginning in January 2009. A training seminar was organized in December 2008 unveiling the ACT program and introducing it to a select group of 30 specialists mainly legislators, progressive African economists, journalists and women's rights campaigners.
