AWOMI’s goal is to empower impoverished women and youth and enhance their leadership and rights in national, regional and global initiatives to end poverty including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
AWOMI’s objectives include:
- To propel the emergence of a mass mobilization for social movement building on gender equality, economic and social justice lead by organizations and community leaders of women and youth living in poverty ;
- To develop policy diagnostics and poverty needs assessments that take into account gendered perspectives such as feminization of poverty and human rights commitments at all levels ;
- To influence different categories of stakeholders involved in policy making and poverty eradication processes, to be innovative and reorient their approach towards alternative pro-poor and equality driven interventions ;
- To develop innovative advocacy mechanisms for ensuring that resources mobilized for poverty elimination, including the MDGs are put into the hands of impoverished women and youth.
