The 11th AWID International Forum to discuss the power of women’s movements was held from 14th to 17th November, 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa.The four-day forum brought together about 2000 women’s rights advocates from around the world and was convened at the Cape Town International Convention Center.

AWOMI participates in International consultative dialogue

on an African response to the global financial crisis

AWOMI was invite by the NEPAD secretariat and action aid international to participate in a consultative meeting and dialogue on the African response to the global financial crisis. The MEETING took place on 23 AND 24 February 2009 at the vulindlela academy of the development bank of southern Africa (DBSA) in Midrand, South Africa. The main objective of the meeting was to provide an all-inclusive African response to the global financial crisis through an in-depth analysis among a cross section of core African stakeholders from the public and private sectors in Africa. The dialogue was intended to build a critical understanding of the implications of the present financial crisis for Africa.

The International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security convened in Liberia ended with the Monrovia Declaration (see details below).The African Women Millennium Initiative on Poverty and Human Rights (AWOMI) participated in the two-day international event and was represented by its Regional Coordinator, Ms Salimata Bocoum, who shared the work being done by the pan African NGO to make African governments accountable through its accountability tracking (ACT) program.
